Can violent video games play a role in violent behaviour? analysis

Can violent video games play a role in violent behaviour?

The research that I have done on existing products I can see that in order to create a excellent documentary you must use the codes and conventions throughout the documentary.

The documentaries that I have done research on are based on how people are affected by playing violent video games. The popular style of documentary used was an expository mode documentary. This is an appropriate mode to create a documentary based on video game violence, as it is a serious topic and there is no raw evidence of this. Which means that the documentaries are optioned based. From the research I have done I can see that most of the documentaries did not have any presenters. A presenter would fit better in documentaries were an experiment is being carried out.

Start of the documentary-
Some documentaries start off with a new reporter or presenter or a group of people playing video games with a narrator talking over the footage.

Interviews-
The interviews specific back drops, for example, the interview with the psychologist had a backdrop of a bookshelf, this links in with the fact that he comes from an academic background. Also this makes him look knowledgeable. The narrator or the banner at the bottom of the screen introduces the interviewee so the audience is aware of, whom the information is coming from.

Sound -

The eerie music was used when the serious topics were raised, which engages the audience. During the expert interviews the background music was very quiet or had no music. Also the room would be completely quiet, you would only hear the interviewee and the interviewer.

Costume –

The expert interviewees had worn suits or a shirt and tie, whereas the vox pop interviewees had worn casual clothing. This helps distinguish the vox pops from the experts.

Facts and statistics-

The documentary would have very factual and scientific answers to the questions asked.

Argument backed up with evidence-
Real life events are used in the documentaries to back up their argument. For example, the sandy hook serial killer who killed 20 children played world of war craft. The documentary creator is being manipulative by using a case like the sandy killer who murdered children, to draw in the audience into believing their views.
