Violent Video Games: Do They Affect Behaviour? analysis

Violent Video Games: Do They Affect Behaviour?

The documentary starts of with a news reporter talking about video games being banned. Then there is a straight cut to a compilation of violent video games. This was affective as the audience can establish what the documentary will be on and gives them a taste of what video games are like.

While the interviews take place the background footage is related to what the interviewee is talking about, for example, the interviewee talks about aggression, and then we see an image of an aggressive game character. This is a good convention, as the audience can understand what the interview is talking. We may consider including this in our documentary, as it would help support our documentary.

The non-diegetic sound is dramatic and fast paced. The music used is something you’d hear from a violent game. This is affective as the topic is related to violence. The documentary has a collective rage of sound effects and music, which was extracted for video games. This is affective as the documentary takes you into the world of video games.

The interviewees are introduced with their name and expertise in context at the bottom of the screen in a bright red banner. This is affective as the audience can establish who is being interviewed and what type of information they will be hearing. We will use this convention, as this is something that all documentaries have, as it is important for the audience to know whom they are getting the information from and why they are being interviewed.
